Korean Character Actor to Share Screen with Anne Hathaway, Jared Leto
Kim Euisung, one of Korea’s most respected character actors, has been cast in the upcoming Apple TV+ series WeCrashed. Kim, who traveled to America last month to begin shooting his scenes, will co-star with Hollywood heavyweights such as Anne Hathaway and Jared Leto.
First rising to prominence through Hong Sangsoo’s debut film The Day a Pig Fell into the Well (1996), Kim appeared in several late 1990s projects before leaving the industry and not returning until Hong’s The Day He Arrives (2011). Since then, he has become a lucky charm for indie and commercial films alike, appearing in major hits such as Assassination (2015), Train to Busan (2016), 1987: When the Day Comes (2017), and Extreme Job (2019). He recently appeared in the popular SBS series Taxi Driver.
WeCrashed is a miniseries based on the podcast ‘WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork' by Wondery. The show follows the rise and fall of the major startup WeWork and was created by Lee Eisenberg and Drew Crevello.
The actor is hardly the first Korean name to appear in Hollywood productions, with stars such as Bae Doona and Song Kangho already familiar to western viewers through several projects. Other names to recently appear in American projects include Han Hyojoo in the USA Networks/Amazon Prime series Treadstone, Rachel Jun(aka Jun Jongseo) in Ana Lily Amirpour’s upcoming Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon, and of course Don Lee (aka Ma Dongseok), who will feature in the next Marvel film The Eternals.
