DP CHUNG Chung-hoon to Shoot STAR WARS: OBI-WAN KENOBI

OLD BOY Cinematographer Lands Major Disney+ Series

Celebrated cinematographer CHUNG Chung-hoon, who has long been known as the visual stylist behind most of Director PARK Chan-wook’s films, from Old Boy (2003) to The Handmaiden (2016), has been hired as the director of photography for the upcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi is being helmed by Deborah CHOW, who directed several episodes of The Mandalorian, the first Star Wars series on Disney+. Ewan McGregor is reprising his role as the title character, after playing him in the Star Wars prequel films from 1999 to 2005. Also returning will be Hayden Christensen, who played Obi-Wan’s mentee Anakin Skywalker, who becomes the legendary Star Wars villain Darth Vader. CHUNG will be the first Korean cinematographer to work in the Star Wars universe.

Beyond his numerous works with Director PARK, CHUNG has also lensed notable Korean films such as The Unjust (2010) and New World (2013). He got his start in Hollywood with Director PARK as well, on his 2013 film Stoker, with Mia Wasikowska and Nicole Kidman.

After drawing attention to Stoker, CHUNG went on to shoot Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and Boulevard, before returning to Korea for PARK’s The Handmaiden (2016). Hollywood came knocking again when he was invited to shoot the box office horror smash It in 2017. He then worked on Hotel Artemis, The Current War, and Ruben Fleischer’s Zombieland: Double Tap. He recently collaborated with Edgar Wright on his upcoming film Last Night in Soho and re-teamed with Ruben Fleischer on the big-budget video game adaptation Uncharted.
