CJ Scores Strong Sales for Action-Comedy Sequel, Investigates Global Market

The Accidental Detective 2: In Action is preparing to meet audiences around the world after investor and distributor
CJ Entertainment announced that the film has been sold to 14 countries. The sequel is already a hit at home, having surpassed its predecessor’s total with over 2.88 million admissions (USD 22.15 million) banked to date.
Following its domestic release on June 13, the investigative duo played by
KWON Sang-woo and
SUNG Dong-il met with American and Canadian audiences after going on release in North America on June 22. Throughout this month the film will find more viewers across Asia and Oceania, with theatrical release dates booked in Malaysia (July 12), Vietnam (July 13), Australia and New Zealand (July 19) as well as Taiwan (July 27).
Other territories the film has been sold to include Japan, Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines, bringing the total amount of markets to 14 to date.
The first
THE ACCIDENTAL DETECTIVE (2015) was directed by
KIM Joung-hoon and released during the Chuseok holiday season in 2015. The sequel adds popular TV actor
LEE Kwang-soo to the mix and was directed by
E.oni, who last helmed the kidnap thriller
MISSING (2016). The film has exceeded expectations, despite opening just as
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was chomping down on the box office.
