Just over a month before its second installment is due to hit theaters, the makers behind the Along with the Gods fantasy epic franchise have announced that they are planning to make the third and fourth installments.

The new titles will go build out new stories beyond the webtoon by JOO Ho-min that has served as the source material until now. The films will explore territory that will open the door to prequels and spinoffs, according to WON Dong-yeon, the head of production company Realies Pictures. KIM Yong-hwa, director of the first two entries, and his VFX and production company Dexter Studios will be back for the new entries, which will be filmed simultaneously, just as the first two films were, towards the end of next year.

Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (2017), which became the second most successful Korean of all time when it was released last December with 14.41 million viewers (USD 103.86 million), focuses on three archangels, played by HA Jung-woo (The Handmaiden, 2016), JU Ji-hoon (Asura : The City of Madness, 2016) and KIM Hyang-gi (Snowy Road, 2017). The trio guide a recently deceased firefighter, played by CHA Tae-hyun of My Sassy Girl (2001), through seven trials in the afterlife over the course of 49 days.

The sequel Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days, which adds Don LEE (aka MA Dong-seok) to the mix as the God of House, will hit theaters on August 1.
