Comedy, Drama and Fantasy Dominate Market Lineup in France
After a strong 2017, which included the hit cop comedy-thriller
Midnight Runners (2017) and the fantasy epic
Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (2017), which became the second most successful Korean film of all time,
Lotte Entertainment has high hopes for their new lineup of films being presented at the Film Market during this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
With expectations high in the wake of the first film’s success, sequel
Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days is the biggest film in Lotte’s lineup this year. Once again directed by
KIM Yong-hwa and featuring
HA Jung-woo,
JU Ji-hoon and
KIM Hyang-gi as archangels guiding the recently deceased into the afterlife, the follow-up, which was shot simultaneously with the first installment, adds
Don LEE (aka
MA Dong-seok) of
THE OUTLAWS (2017) to the cast.
Following the success of their fantasy drama
Be With You last month, Lotte’s next title is
LOVE+SLING, which was released in Korea on May 9. This comedy-drama features
YOO Hae-jin (
LUCK-KEY, 2016) as a widowed father whose son pursues wrestling despite not having any interest in the sport. Before long, a young woman comes between them.
From
The Fatal Encounter (2014) director
LEE Jae-kyoo,
Intimate Strangers is a remake of the Italian comedy-drama
Perfect Strangers, originally released in 2016.
YOO Hae-jin and
CHO Jin-woong (
The Handmaiden, 2016) lead the cast of this story of a dinner party that goes wrong when a game is played in which each participant must share the content of their phones.
