THE ENDLESS and BEHIND THE DARK NIGHT Top 21st BiFan

GINTAMA Closes This Year’s Bucheon Intl. Fantastic Film Festival
 

The 21st edition of the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan) held its closing ceremony on July 21st, and gave its top award to The Endless in the Bucheon Choice competition, the third indie from US filmmakers Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, and SHIM Chan-yang’s Behind the Dark Night in the Korean Fantastic competition.

Sadrac González-Perellón’s Black Hollow Cage from Spain came away with the Jury Prize in Bucheon Choice, while Hentaida (I Am a Pervert) by Japan’s ANZAI Hajime was acknowledged with a special mention from the jury. Giddens Ko’s Taiwanese film Mon Mon Mon Monsters earned the NH Audience Award.

Best Actress in the Korean competition went to PARK Ji-soo in The End of April while OH Ryoong and RYU Seong-hyeon shared the Best Actor prize for their roles in The Gravity of Acting. The Audience Award went to IM Heung-soon’s latest documentary Ryeohaeng.

The European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation (EFFFF) Asian Award went to Godspeed by CHUNG Mong-hong while the NETPAC Award was awarded to CHEN Yu-hsun’s The Village of No Return, both from Taiwan. Wolfgang Groos’ Robby and Toby’s Fantastic Voyager earned the Save Energy, Save Earth Film Award and Andreas Dresen’s The Legend of Timm Tyler or The Boy Who Sold His Laughter picked up the Children’s Jury Award, which both hailed from Germany.

The top prize in the Bucheon Choice: Shorts jury went to Alonso Ruizpalacios’ Green, with the jury prize going to Natalia Siwicka’s 16.03 and the Audience Award to HONG Heng-fai’s Crash. The Best Korean Short Film prize was taken by JO Ba-reun’s Vibration (2016) while LEE Soo-ah’s Weight of the Hand took home the Korean Short Audience Award.

After the ceremony the closing film, FUKUDA Yūichi’s Gintama, was screened.
