WEEKENDS to Open 6th Toronto Korean Film Festival
TKFF to Wind Down with A QUIET DREAM
The Toronto Korean Film Festival returns on July 12th for its 6th edition. The festival will open with the documentary WEEKENDS (2016) before closing with ZHANG Lu’s latest indie drama A Quiet Dream (2016) on July 16th. A total of eight features and eight shorts will be screened at this year’s TKFF.
A look at the prejudices experienced by G-Voice, the first all-gay choir in Korea, WEEKENDS, the directorial debut of LEE Dong-ha, debuted at the Berlin International Film Festival last year.
ZHANG Lu’s tenth work A Quiet Dream, a black and white film starring HAN Ye-ri and directors YANG Ik-june, PARK Jung-bum and YOON Jong-bin, debuted as the opening film of last year’s Busan International Film Festival.
Also screening in Toronto this year will be BAEK Seung-hwa’s rural sports drama Queen of Walking (2016) with Miss Granny (2014) star SHIM Eun-kyoung, LEE Na-jeong’s comfort woman indie drama Snowy Road, KIM Jong-kwan’s indie Worst Woman (2016), also starring HAN Ye-ri, LEE Chang-jae’s documentary OUR PRESIDENT, on the late president ROH Moo-hyun, KIM Ki-young’s classic film The Housemaid (1960) and KIM So-young’s documentary Sound of Nomad: Koryo Arirang.
Meanwhile the short AHN Ju-young’s Pig Riding Hood (2016), SHIN Jong-hun’s Fangs (2015), CHAE Jae-yeong’s Mommy, It Itches! (2016), PARK Young-ju’s 1 KILOGRAM (2016) LEE Ji-won’s Summer Night (2016) and PARK Si-woo’s Being will screen together while ZONG Eui-yong’s A Conversation with Hana and JUNG Won-hee’s Belle Ville (2016) will precede other feature presentations.
