Director LEE Hae-young Readies for DRUG WAR

CHO Jin-woong, CHA Seung-won and More in Johnny TO Thriller Remake

The Silenced (2015) director LEE Hae-young will be back on set at the beginning of July as he kicks off production of his fourth feature Drug War, a Korean remake of Johnny To’s 2013 HK-China co-production. Joining the director on set are CHO Jin-woong, CHA Seung-won, KIM Joo-hyuk and RYU Jun-yeol.

The story follows a detective who poses as a drug dealer to score a major narcotics bust. A Hard Day (2014) star CHO plays the cop while rising actor RYU, seen in The King earlier this year, will play a drug dealer who is compelled to help him. Meanwhile, CHA was last seen in the thriller Man on High Heels (2014) while KIM has been very active of late, featuring in The Truth Beneath (2016) and Confidential Assignment among many more.

After working on several screenplays towards the beginning of the millennium, including RYOO Seung-wan’s Arahan (2004), director LEE helmed his first feature, the wrestling coming-of-age drama Like a Virgin with LEE Hae-jun in 2006. He followed that with the erotic comedy-drama Foxy Festival in 2010 and period drama-thriller The Silenced.

LEE is working with production company Yong Film Inc. which was previously responsible for PARK Chan-wook’s The Handmaiden among others. Financing the film is KIDARI ENT, which has made films such as The Deal (2015) and The Chosen: Forbidden Cave (2015).
