Our Love Story, the Grand Prize winner in the Korean Competition of this year’s Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF), will have its international premiere as part of the New Directors section at the 64th San Sebastian International Film Festival.
Director by LEE Hyun-ju, a debut filmmaker, Our Love Story is a feature project from the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA), which has previously presented major Korean indie films such as Bleak Night (2011), End of Animal (2011), Socialphobia (2015) and Alice In Earnestland (2015), the Grand Prize winner at last year’s JIFF.
LEE’s film features LEE Sang-hee and RYU Sun-young as a young pair of burgeoning lesbian lovers navigating complicated emotions in a society that still offers little tolerance to homosexual citizens.
Following its successful screening in Jeonju this year, Our Love Story went on to be featured in the Queer Rainbow program of the SEOUL International Women’s Film Festival. Director LEE previously made the short Ordinary family, which screened at the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival in 2014, among other events.
Also screening in San Sebastian this year, in the official competition lineup, is Yourself and Yours, the latest film by famed auteur HONG Sang-soo.
The film is represented international by Korean sales company M-Line Distribution. No Korean release date has been set for the moment.
