17th Jeonju International Film Festival Winds to a Close
 
 
 
Beyond Sand Storm, the International Competition jury also handed a Best Picture Prize for Ted Fendt’s Short Stay and a Special Jury Prize for Emir Baigazin’s The Wounded Angel. A Special Mention was also reserved for Mauro Herce’s Dead Slow Ahead.
 
In the Korean Competition, the Grand Prize was shared between the queer drama 
Our Love Story, a feature production of the 
Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) and 
DELTA BOYS, a comedy about four young men who form a quartet, which also won the
 CGV ARTHOUSE Upcoming Project Support Prize. 
KO Hee-young received a Special Mention and the CGV ARTHOUSE Distribution Support Prize for her Jeju diver documentary 
Breathing Underwater. Meanwhile, 
CHOI Seung-ho’s 
Spy Nation, a documentary about Korea’s National Intelligence Service, won the Netpac Award for Best Asian Film as well as the festival’s inaugural Best Documentary Prize.
 
In the Korean Shorts Competition, in addition to 
Summer Night’s Grand Prize win,
 PAIK Jongkwan took home the Best Director Prize for
 Cyclical Night while the Special Jury Prize went to 
KIM Kang-min’s 
Deer Flower, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
 
The Jeonju International Film Festival closed on May 7th with a screening of a remastered cut of 
RYOO Seung-wan’s 
Die Bad (2000).
