Asian Film Festival in Indonesia Takes 11 from Korea

The 10th Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF) took place over December 1st to 6th, screening 10 Korean films as part of a special ‘Korean Cinema Splash’ showcase, as well as the Korea-Indonesia co-production A Copy of My Mind from Jogko ANWAR. Among the programmed films in the section (which was presented by the Korean Cultural Center Indonesia) were five features and five shorts.

Working closely with the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC), JAFF, which takes place in Yogyakarta on Java Island, is the premier Asian film event in Indonesia.

The feature lineup included four commercial works, including this year’s two biggest Korean hits, CHOI Dong-hoon’s Assassination and RYOO Seung-wan’s Veteran, as well as the period fairy tale update The Piper from KIM Gwang-tae and romantic thriller Perfect Proposal from YOON Jae-Gu. JIN Mo-young’s surprise documentary hit My Love, Don't Cross That River was also on deck in Indonesia.

Short films included the animation Cloud Bread - The Day The Laundry Flew Off In The Wind (2010) from JANG Jae-woon, documentaries The Emotional Society On Stage (2015) by KIM Sook-hyun and CHO Hye-jeong and The Urban Suite (2014) by Forest Ian Etsler and Sébastien Simon, and Jero YUN and Singing CHEN’s South Korea-Taiwan co-production The Pig (2013). Etsler and Simon also brought their fiction short One-Minded (2014), screening in the Light of Asia competition, which featured Busan International Short Film Festival programmer Jinna LEE as a jury member.
