Seo-hyun’s Film Debut
Seo-hyun, a member of K-pop girl band Girls' Generation, will make her big-screen debut in China. She is to join a Chinese film
So I Married an Anti-Fan, where
Chan-Yeol of K-pop boy band EXO plays the main character.
This youngest member of Girl’s Generation has been voice acting in the animation series Despicable Me and showcasing her acting ability in musicals including Moon Embracing the Sun and Gone with the Wind, and a TV drama Passionate Love (2013). And now this is the first time she appears in a film.
So I Married an Anti-Fan is a romantic comedy where a top star Hoo-joon (Chan-Yeol) falls in love with a magazine reporter Liri (Mabel YUAN). Hoo-joon becomes a star overnight from a hick, and Liri becomes an anti-fan when she meets him on business, but finally falls in love with him. Seo-hyun plays the role of a younger colleague at his agent. As a matter of fact, they are also colleagues at
SM Entertainment in real life.
So I Married an Anti-Fan relies on the enormous popularity of EXO in Asia, as popular as to have a web-drama
EXO Next Door (2015) produced. It is especially newsworthy because Chan-Yeol has been showing his promising acting ability in
Salut d’Amour (2015) in a supporting role and received the Best Rookie Actor prize at the 8th edition of Korea Drama Festival this year.
So I Married an Anti-Fan is his film debut as a main character and also his first film in China.
Mabel YUAN, who played in a Chinese TV drama City of Angels (2015), is also greatly popular and is expected to create a powerful team play with Chan-Yeol. So I Married an Anti-Fan started the first shooting on November 3rd in Shanghai.
So I Married an Anti-Fan is based on a novel with the same title by KIM Eun-jeong, which has been warmly received in China and Southeast Asia with a translated version, and it was also published in English in the States. It is also to be produced as a TV drama in Korea.
