Korean Star Scores First Hollywood Role
Korean star
LEE Joon-gi has landed his first Hollywood role in the latest and final installment of the long-running
Resident Evil series,
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Filming is currently underway in Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa with a US release planned for January 27th of next year.
Putting his Taekwondo skills to the test, LEE joined the production as Commander LEE in the film version of the popular series of survival horror video games from Capcom. LEE features alongside series lead Milla Jovovich, whose husband Paul W.S. Anderson has written and produced all six installments, as well directed four of them, including the 2002 original and this finale.
One of the leads of
King And The Clown (2005), LEE was a popular screen actor before turning his attention to TV dramas and the Chinese film
Begin Again, which recently wrapped production.
LEE follows in the footsteps of other Korean actors that have sought to make their mark in Hollywood, including
LEE Byung-hun (
Terminator Genysis),
CHOI Min-shik (
Lucy) and
JUNG Ji-hoon (
The Prince).
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter sees Alice (played by Jovovich) return to Raccon City as the Umbrella Corporation gets ready to wipe out survivors of the apocalypse.
