RYOO Seung-bum Retrospective at NYAFF

4 Film Program for Versatile Performer
 
 
 
 
Following last year’s special Korean actor showcase, where Korean star CHOI Min-shik traveled to the US for the first time, greeting fans and presenting such films as Failan (2001), Old boy (2003), Crying Fist (2005) and last year’s Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time, NYAFF has invited an another top Korean thespian for this year’s festivities.
 
This year’s special guest will be RYOO Seung-bum, the talented performer who made a name for himself in his brother RYOO Seung-wan’s eclectic films. Known for his manic energy, casual demeanor and subtle ability to command a scene, over the years RYOO has cemented his status as one of Korea’s top actors.
 
Four of the star’s films will be presented at NYAFF this year. The Berlin File, which became Korea’s best-selling action film earlier this year, teamed with top talent HA Jung-woo, JUN Ji-hyun and HAN Suk-kyu, which his brother at the helm. Two more films from the brother duo will also be on the program: the energetic and comic book inflected martial arts comedy Arahan (2004) as well as the tense and vibrant crime film The Unjust (2010), in which he co-starred with HWANG Jung-min and YOO Hae-jin. Also screening will be CHOI Ho’s Bloody Tie, a Busan-set gangster film in which he plays a low-level drug hustler/police informant, once again co-starring with HWANG.
 
RYOO will be present screening of all is films at the festival, which will take place from June 28th to July 15th.
