THE HYMN and WESTERN FRONT to Be Released Later in 2015

Two of the year’s biggest incoming films wrapped their shoots in early January. Period drama The Hymn, with RYOO Seung-ryong and BAE Suzy, ended its production on the 2nd while Korean war film Western Front (working title), starring SEOL Kyung-gu and YEO Jin-gu, wrapped on the 4th.

The sophomore film from LEE Jong-pil (Born to Sing, 2013), The Hymn is based on the story of SHIN Jae-hyo (RYOO), a pansori teacher who taught the gifted Chae-sun (BAE). A powerful man (played by KIM Nam-gil) seeks out Chae-sun and makes her his concubine, and as SHIN realizes his love for her, he writes the song Dorihwaga (the Korean title of the film).

The directorial debut of The Pirates scribe CHEON Seong-il, Western Front takes place at the tail end of the Korean war and tells the story of South and North Korean soldiers who must cooperate in order to survive. The film also stars LEE Gyoung-young.
CJ Entertainment are handling The Hymn and Lotte Entertainment will distribute Western Front. While no release dates have been fixed, both may be ready in time for a summer release.
