Korean star HA Jung-woo has signed on to star in the upcoming thriller Night Trip (translated title). From director KIM Jin-hwang, the project will be the first film financed by Kakao M, the entertainment company subsidiary of the Korean instant messaging giant Kakao. According to Kakao M, HA Jung-woo will appear in the film, and they are currently finetuning the details.
The film is being described as a mystery-thriller about a detective who takes on a new case only to begin to notice eerie similarities between the case and the plot of a best-selling novel written by his wife. HA has been cast as the detective.
Kakao M plans to release the film on a digital platform, though a partial theatrical launch is also being considered.
Known for a wide range of hits, including The Chaser (2008), Take Off (2009), Assassination (2015), The Handmaiden (2016), 1987: When the Day Comes (2017) and the Along with the Gods series, HA was recently seen in the disaster hit ASHFALL (2019) and the horror film The Closet. HA finished shooting the period sports drama Boston 1947 this year and is scheduled to appear in KIM Seong-hun’s action-thriller Kidnapping (translated title), which was delayed as overseas location shooting requirements became impracticable in the middle of the ongoing pandemic.
Night Trip will go into production in January of next year. Sanai Pictures, known for New World (2013) and The Spy Gone North (2018), among others, will produce the film.
