KIM Seo-hyung and KWON Hae-hyo Headline K-Horror ALMA MATER
Whispering Corridors Reboot: Alma Mater (translated title), the sixth film in the long-running Korean horror franchiser Whispering Corridors, which is being dubbed a reboot, kicked off filming on July 9. As previously reported, KIM Seo-hyung is leading the cast while KIM Hyeon-soo (Be With You, 2018), CHOI Ri (Keys to the Heart, 2018) and KWON Hae-hyo (The Day After, 2017) were announced as her co-stars. In the director’s chair is debut filmmaker LEE Mi-young.
The reboot will feature KIM playing a woman who doesn’t remember her school days who is then hired as the vice principal of the school she attended as a girl. Before long, strange events relating to her past begin to take place at the school.
KIM is most well-known for her role as the head of the assassin academy in JUNG Byung-gil’s The Villainess (2017) and also appeared in The Voice (2005), the fourth film in the Whispering Corridors series.
Whispering Corridors ushered in a wave of modern Korean horror films when it became a box office hit in 1998. It also launched an anthology franchise, in which each subsequent film, baring no connection to prior entries, also focuses on young girls targeted by a grudge spirit in school. Each entry in the series has been directed by a newcomer. The series is also known for introducing several new actresses to the industry, notably KONG Hyo-jin, CHOI Gang-hee and KIM Ok-vin.
