The Fantasia International Film Festival has revealed its third wave of programming to complete its program announcements for this year’s 22nd edition. The Montreal-based genre film festival has invited 24 films from Korea, including 15 feature films and 9 shorts.
Featuring in this years’ ‘Cheval Noir’ competition will be PARK Hoon-jung’s latest film The Witch : Part 1. The Subversion. Having its international premiere in Montreal, the action-mystery features new face KIM Da-mi as a young girl in the countryside with a secret past that comes back to haunt her. Currently, on release in Korea, the film has already drawn over two million viewers. The busy director PARK will, in fact, have two films at the festival, as his North Korea serial killer thriller V.I.P.(2017) is also invited.
Also in the ‘Cheval Noir’ competition lineup will be the Indonesia-Korea co-production Satan’s Slaves, a horror film from Indonesian filmmaker Joko ANWAR. Meanwhile, the ‘Action!’ competition will include the festival premiere of LEE Hae-young’s hit Drug War remake Believer, which recently attracted over five million viewers in Korea.
