Actress KIM Ok-vin, who will visit the Cannes Film Festival with action film The Villainess, signed with Huayi Brothers. The company announced an agreement with KIM on April 12th by saying “We will support KIM Ok-vin who has received great reviews for her characterful performances in every film to keep her status of character actress.”
KIM Ok-vin made her debut with The Voice (2005) and deeply impressed the audiences with PARK Chan-wook’s Thirst (2009). She is known as a grade-holder in taekwondo and hapkido so she is expected to show a great performance in upcoming action film The Villainess, which is directed by director JUNG Byung-gil from Seoul Action School. KIM will play the tragic action heroin grown up to a killer. The Villainess will premiere in the Midnight Screenings at the Cannes Film Festival.
Meanwhile, Huayi Brothers, KIM Ok-vin’s new agency, is one of the largest management companies in Korea, which currently houses stars like KIM Yun-seok, YOO Hae-jin, LEE Si-young and LIM Ji-yeon. Chinese media group Huayi Brothers took over Sim entertainment, which was founded in 2005, in April 2016. In addition, the company aims to diversify its business to jump into the production business including films, TV dramas and film music on the basis of entertainment management and to establish its subsidiary Beautiful Mind Korea to expand its business into the cosmetic industry.
