Nestle Webseries from Japanese Director IWAI Shunji
The new Korea-set webseries
Chang-ok’s Letter, from Japanese master IWAI Shunji, debuted on the Nestle Theater channel on Youtube on February 16th. Comprising four episodes that average about 15 minutes a piece, the project features Korean stars
BAE Doo-na and
KIM Joo-hyuk, as a modern couple in Seoul.
Eun-ha lives with her husband and two children as well as her over-bearing mother-in-law. A dutiful daughter-in-law, mother and wife, she lives her life at the beck and call of those around her, bottling up her frustrations inside her.
Director of Love Letter (1995), a popular melodrama in Korea, IWAI wrote the webseries with NATSUNO Tsugumi. He also edited the series and composed all the music for it. The series was shot largely through long takes, with cinematography by IWAI collaborator KAMBE Chigi.
BAE Doo-na, known globally for her work with the Wachowski Siblings, including
Cloud Atlas (2012) and Netflix show
Sense8, recently appeared in Korean disaster hit
Tunnel (2016). KIM is a veteran Korean star who has turned into a major character actor, with recent credits that include
Yourself and Yours (2016),
The Truth Beneath (2016) and
Confidential Assignment.
