Veteran Korean Actor Welcomed in London

Veteran character actor BAEK Yoon-sik will be the focus of a retrospective at the London Korean Film Festival, which kicked off its 11th edition on Thursday the 3rd of November.

The program will feature five of his films, ranging from 2003’s cult classic Save the Green Planet all the way to last year’s hit political thriller Inside Men. Other films in the lineup will include IM Sang-soo’s The Taste of Money (2012), SHIN Han-sol’s The Art Of Fighting (2006) and CHOI Dong-hoon’s The Big Swindle (2004).

Born in 1947, BAEK has been active since 1970, when he debuted as an actor on KBS TV. He appeared in a handful of films that decade before retreating to the small screen for almost 25 years. After a small role in 2000’s A Masterpiece in My Life, his big screen career was resuscitated when he wowed viewers in JANG Joon-hwan’s Save the Green Planet, as the kidnapped CEO who may or may not be from another planet. He immediately became of fixture of Korean films, appearing in lead roles in The Big Swindle and The President’s Last Bang (2005). His most recent role was a small part in HUR Jin-ho’s The Last Princess this summer.

This year’s LKFF will run until November 27th, bringing its roster of Korean films beyond London to UK cities such as Sheffield, Nottingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Belfast.
