Indieplus Cinema Center with 36 Seats

Indieplus Cinema Center is opening in the underground of Busan Cinema Center located in Haeundae, Busan, in March. It will be in the film projection room of Busan Cinema Center after remodeling. It will have 36 seats total with inner facilities including entrance and a slope.

Indie film exclusive theater must show Korean indie films more than 219 days every year, and Korean Film Council (KOFIC) will provide KRW 90 million (USD 74,000) for annual operation cost.

Indieplus with 70 seats in Gangnam, Seoul, has been the only indie film exclusive theater so far. Indieplus Cinema Center is expected to vitalize independent film industry in Busan.

Busan has made efforts for local indie films, such as launching The Association of Busan Independent Film in 1999 and holding the Independent Film Festival Busan. As a result, the number of indie films produced in Busan has been on the rise every year.

Busan Cinema Center expressed its ambitions “to play a role as a bridge between indie films and moviegoers through various regular and special screenings as well as introducing new indies by featuring Korean indie films.”

Film projection room for Indieplus Cinema Center is currently showing a documentary Tour of Duty by KIM Dong-ryeong and PARK Kyoung-tae, which depicts the US military camp town setting in the northern part of Gyeonggi-do province which will be demolished soon, and SHIN Yeon-shick’s omnibus film Like a French Film which features several idol stars, including Da-som of Sistar, JEON Ji-yoon of 4minute, and So-yi from a former girl band T.T.MA.
