JK Film Blockbuster Climbs Over 7 Million Viewers

The CJ Entertainment blockbuster The Himalayas, produced by JK Film (Ode to My Father, 2014), became the first film to show in ScreenX, a 270-degree screening format that projects images on the side walls of a theater, as well as the front screen, in the United States. 20-30 minutes of the film is projected with the technology and screenings began on January 1st at the CGV Cinema in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, the LEE Seok-hoon expedition drama, featuring the red-hot HWANG Jung-min (Ode to My Father, Veteran), has now reached 7.24 million admissions (USD 46.39 million), spread across 2015 and 2016, at the domestic box office. In the United States, the title has so far grossed USD 442,417 from 36 locations.

Developed by CJ CGV Cinemas and the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), ScreenX was initially presented at the Busan International Film Festival in 2013 through the specially made short The X, directed by KIM Jee-woon and starring GANG Dong-won. The technology has steadily become more prevalent, first used for certain trailers and ads in theaters and now available for entire sequences in films. ScreenX is now available in 75 screens in 44 locations across South Korea and one in Bangkok, Thailand.

CJ CGV is also responsible for the 4DX screening technology, which is now available in 239 auditoriums across 39 countries.
