PARK Heung-sik’s LOVE, LIES Eyes 2016 Release

PARK Heung-sik’s new colonial era picture LOVE, LIES (transliterated title), with HAN Hyo-joo, YOO Yeon-seok and CHUN Woo-hee, all of whom appeared in this year’s high concept melodrama The Beauty Inside, wrapped its four-month shoot on October 17th. The Lotte Entertainment title is gearing up for a 2016 release.

The music drama set in the 1940s, towards the end of the colonial era, during which Korea was occupied by Japan, features HAN as a gisaeng (female entertainers of old Korea often called ‘haeohwa’ which means talking flower) famed for her beauty and talent who dreams of becoming the nation’s best singer. CHUN plays another gisaeng while YOO appears as a renowned songwriter and producer. The film also features PARK Sung-woong (New World, 2013) and JANG Young-nam (Azooma, 2013).

Known for Joseon Era drama Masquerade (2012), surveillance thriller Cold Eyes (2013), HAN appeared in another period music drama, the 60s set folk music story C'est Si Bon, earlier this year.

Rising to prominence as the antagonist in 2012’s A Werewolf Boy, YOO has been a busy performer of late, having appeared in Perfect Proposal (2015), The Royal Tailor (2014) and The Whistleblower (2014), in addition to several TV credits.

CHUN jumped into the spotlight following her star-making turn in LEE Su-jin’s searing indie drama Han Gong-ju (2014), which netted her several best actress awards last year, and will next be seen in NA Hong-jin’s Gok-seong (transliterated title).

Director of classic melodramatic fare such as I Wish I Had a Wife (2001) and My Mother, The Mermaid (2004), PARK recently helmed a period action film Memories of the Sword, with LEE Byung-hun and JEON Do-yeon.
