Born in 1973, Jang Yeongnam is a veteran performer well known in TV, films and on the stage. After graduating from the Seoul Institute of Arts, she joined the theater troupe Mukhwa. She made her silver screen debut in 1997’s <Push! Push!>, and in 2001, she won her first accolade, the Baeksang Art Award for Best New Actress in Theater, for her performance in <Dressing Room>, soon followed by Best Actress from the Donga Theater Award the next year for her role as the female lead in <Romeo and Juliet>. After joining playwright and film director Jang Jin’s troupe Suda, she made a mark in the director’s romantic comedy <Someone Special> (2004). Subsequently, she has excelled in a number of roles, frequently appearing in roles of mothers, or playing characters that stood apart for their unforgiveness. Her filmography includes Yim Pilsung’s <Hansel & Gretel> (2007), <My Girlfriend Is an Agent> (2009), <Harmony> (2010) and <Hindsight> (2011). In 2012, she appeared in the successful thriller <Neighbors>, the blockbuster fantasy romance hit <A Werewolf Boy>, which earned her Best Supporting Actress from the Grand Bell Awards, and she took on the lead role in the low-budget revenge film <Azooma>, for which she was awarded Best Actress by the Producer’s Guild of Korea at the Busan International Film Festival. She was next seen in the 2014 holidays hit drama <Ode to My Father> (2014), which attracted in more than 14 million spectators, as well as in the action film <Confidential Assignment> (2016). Her film appearances became more frequent, with notably the hostage thriller <THE NEGOTIATION> (2018), the courthouse drama <Innocent Witness> (2018) and the horror thriller <Metamorphosis> (2019). Jang rose to a new level of popularity playing the head nurse at the psychiatric hospital in the romantic drama series <It’s Okay to Not Be Okay>, an international hit upon its broadcasting on Netflix. Later, she joined the main casts for <FIREFIGHTERS> (2020) and the thriller <F20> (2021).
