Korean Screenwriters Agency Pairs with HK Sales Agent

The Writers Agency of Finecut (WAF), a new division of the film distribution company that represents Korean screenwriters, has teamed up with the Hong Kong sales agent Golden Network as it looks to step into the lucrative Chinese market.

The partnership comes in the midst of a rise of interest in all things Korean in China, ranging from K-pop and TV dramas to a growing number of co-productions striking a chord at the box office on the mainland. Those include the hit comedy-drama 20! Once Again, a CJ Entertainment Chinese-language version of their Korean hit Miss Granny, the 3D film Mr. Go (2013) and the romcom A Wedding Invitation (2013).

WAF is presenting 10 new projects to potential producers this week during the Hong Kong Film and Television Market (FilMart) this week. Among the writers the group represents are CHO Sang-bum (Tazza – The Hidden Card), LEE Shin-ho (The Chaser) and OH Tae-kyung (Secretly Greatly). Some of their projects have already been brought into major Korean production companies, such as Realies Pictures (Masquerade, 2012) and Taewon Entertainment (Nowhere to Hide, 1999).
