Asean Film Festival: There’s Something About Asian Films

1st Film Festival to be Launched
 
 
The 1st Asean Film Festival is coming soon. In connection with the Asean-ROK Commemorative Summit being held on December 11th and 12th in Busan, the festival will take place from Thursday November 27th to December 4th at the Seoul Theater of National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. The festival has selected 10 outstanding works from 10 representing countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Brunei, Myanmar, and the Philippines to name a few.
 
Opening film is a remake of the Hollywood romantic comedy, There’s Something About Mary (1998), What’s so Special about Rina. The story is comedy about a 30-year old man named Hakim who falls in love with his co-worker Rina.
 
Other than the opening film, there is a Thailand film The Teacher’s Diary which was very popular domestically and took the top spot in box office in the first half of 2014. Currently a remake of the film is in progress as a Korea-China-Malaysia co-production. Driving with My Wife’s Lover (2006) director KIM Tai-sik has been selected as the director. In The Teacher’s Diary, a former professional wrestler finds job as a primary school teacher in a remote town. As he reads the diary of his predecessor, Ann, he becomes drawn to her. The film is set to be shot in China next summer.
 
Asean Film Festival will be an opportunity for Korean audiences to meet renowned and upcoming filmmakers from 10 different Asian countries.
