HYUN Bin, SON Ye-jin and More to Receive Awards
The Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) is only a few days away and preparations are almost complete as juries have been finalized and awardees have been selected for the opening night festivities.
Featuring among the main competition jury (Puchon Choice) will be Pieta (2012) actress CHO Min-soo and top Filipino director Erik MATTI, whose film On the Job picked up the Jury’s Choice and Best Actor accolades at last year’s PiFan. Joining them on the feature jury will be top Korean director KIM Sung-soo, who most recently made the influenza thriller The Flu, Tom Davia, from US outfit Shoreline Entertainment, and South American genre film expert Diego Marambio Avaria.
Filling out the Puchon Choice: Short jury will be Udine Far East Film Festival chairman Sabrina Barachetti, Swiss Films market and festivals rep Annick Mahnert, and LEE Shin-ho, the co-writer of NA Hong-jin’s 2008 thriller The Chaser.
As with previous years, PiFan will award certain local performers with prizes during the opening ceremony, to be held on July 17th and followed by the opening screening of the German thriller Stereo. The Producer’s Choice Awardees for 2014 will be star HYUN Bin, who recently returned to the screen with The Fatal Encounter, following his two-year obligatory military service, and popular actress SON Ye-jin who will next be seen in summer swashbuckler Pirates.
The Fantasia Award, which is voted on by Bucheon City residents, will be given to young stars KIM Woo-bin (Friend 2) and SHIM Eun-kyoung (Miss Granny) who is also serving as this year’s PiFan lady. Finally, the benefactor of this year’s IT Award will be character actor CHO Jin-woong, who is currently on the charts with the critically acclaimed thrilled A Hard Day.
The 18th edition of PiFan, the top genre film event in Asia, will run until July 27th.
