Well Go Will Distribute in US from January 10

WON Shin-yun’s hit spy action-thriller The Suspect is set to screen internationally as releases have now been confirmed in seven territories, according to an announcement from the film’s distributor Showbox on Monday, December 30th. Among those is the United States, where the film will screen in 15 theaters, starting from January 10th in the New Year.

The Suspect features Korean star GONG Yoo as a former North Korean agent who goes on the run when his government kills his family, only to find himself framed in the South by a member of the local national intelligence service. The non-stop action spectacle opened on Christmas Eve (December 24th) domestically and has been running close behind current chart-topper The Attorney, also a local film. The thriller has already accrued 1.83 million admissions in just six days.

Well Go USA picked up the North American distribution rights while the Showbox title was also snatched up by distributors in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, the Middle East and the German-speaking portion of Europe.

Director WON previously made the black comedy A Bloody Aria (2006) and 2007’s thriller 7 Days. The Suspect is the fourth big budget North Korean spy-themed thriller to hit Korean multiplexes this year, following the hits The Berlin File and Secretly Greatly, and last month’s Commitment.
