First Awards Ceremony for Korean Films Overseas
For the first time, a Korean film awards ceremony will be held overseas. Presented by Korean Society of Cinematographers(KSC) and put on by the organizing committee of The Golden Film Festival of Korea, the 34th Golden Film Festival Awarding Ceremony will take place on January 19th, 2014 in Jilin City, Changchun, China.
The organizing committee stated “We organized this special event to give Korean cinema and the front line of the Korean Wave a wider recognition in Asia and worldwide, as well as to use this opportunity to establish a new collaborative system for visual arts between Korea and China.” The committee continued, “the Golden Film Festival Awarding Ceremony will be the highlight of this joint-festival as the first Korean-Chinese celebration of film.” JUNG Jae-young of Our Sunhi and AM 11:00 and rising star KIM So-eun(Someone Behind You, The Show Must Go On) are named honorary ambassadors for this ceremony.
In addition, the organizing committee has tentatively made an agreement to create an ‘Asian Visual Arts Festival’ with seven Asian countries, including Korea, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Thailand.
During the period of the awards ceremony, various events will be offered to the public such as signing sessions with award-winning actors and showcases of uncensored Korean films.
