4 Features and 5 Shorts Screen

The ongoing San Diego Asian Film Festival, which kicked off its 14th edition on Thursday, November 7th, features a number of recent Korean films in its lineup. This year, four features are screening in the Asia Pop! section while another five shorts are featured across two shorts programs.

Four of the most popular genre Korean films that have screened around the world over the last 12 months booked themselves appearances in San Diego for their appealing blend of commercial sensibilities and emotion. Two thrillers, KIM Byung-woo’s The Terror, LIVE and JUNG Byoung-gil’s Confession of Murder, made it into the lineup. Boasting an exciting premise and a strong turn from HA Jung-woo, The Terror, LIVE amassed over 5.5 million admissions last summer, while Confession of Murder, starring JUNG Jae-young and PARK Si-hoo, was also a high concept success. On the romantic side, ROH Deok’s Very Ordinary Couple surprised many for its realistic approach to relationships and LEE Won-suk’s How to Use Guys with Secret Tips is an energetic addition to the romantic comedy genre.

‘Shorts: Aigoooooooooo!’ is showcasing four new Korean shorts, including KIM Soo-jin’s The Line, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this spring, LEE Joo-hyun’s Sweet Corn, CHO Hye-rhang’s The Same Old Song and KIM Jung-in’s Choongshim, Soso. Also screening will be the short KIM Sung-young’s Hu’s Game, as part of the ‘Shorts for Shorties’ collection.
The 14th San Diego Asian Film Festival will conclude on Saturday, November 16th.
