He moved to the screen when he appeared as the lead in the 2002 short film <Are You Seeing Anyone>. After playing the male lead in the indie drama feature <Way To Go, Rose> (2005), he made his first television appearance in the 2006 drama series <Goodbye Solo>. He has also appeared in the movies <The Pit And The Pendulum> (2008) and <The Man from Nowhere> (2010), and he made a good impression with his performances in the drama series <The King of Legend> (2010-2011) and <You’re So Pretty> (2011). Kim has gone on to appear in a number of mainstream films in supporting roles, such as <An Ethics Lesson> (2012) and <Roaring Currents> (2013), Korea’s biggest box office hit as to date. Even so, Kim never stopped supporting indie films. He could be seen in 2012 headlining the Korean Academy of Film Arts production <When Winter Scream>, and in 2014 he joined Park Haeil and Shin Mina in the main cast for Zhang Lu’s critically acclaimed <Gyeong-ju> (2014). After he gained more recognition with the 2014 hit crime series <Bad Guys> and the historical drama <MAL•MO•E: The Secret Mission> (2018), he took part in the first part of the Netflix anthology series <Persona> (2019), starring IU. In 2020, he joined the Netflix original series <Kingdom> to take over the role of General Lee Gangyun, and in 2021, he was back on the big screen, taking top billing in the comedy action <Mission: Possible> and the drama <Good Person>. His brother Kim Taewoo is also a well-known actor.
