Director Nam Seung-suk, born in 1971 in Seoul, currently holds a position as a research professor at the Institute of the Media and Arts at Yonsei University. He began his academic journey at Sogang University in Seoul, where he earned his B.A. in Philosophy and M.S. in Artificial Intelligence. Seeking to expand his horizons, he traveled to the USA to acquire a B.F.A. in Film, Video, and New Media from SAIC. Upon completing his studies abroad, Nam returned to Sogang University to pursue and ultimately obtain a Ph.D. in Documentary. Notably, during his doctoral research, he also served as a visiting fellow at Harvard University.
His Nomadic Project aiming to shoot films in five cities on five continents, commenced in 2002. Now three features, Kiki+Godot (Chicago, 2008), Nina (Paris, 2009), and Jeehae(Seoul, 2008) are complete. Since 2016, he dedicated himself to the Cinematic Portrait Documentary project. Then he produced the documentary Ha Dong Chae Bok: A Song of Two Humans (2017) mainly around interviews. In 2019 he produced documentaries Musoon, Across the Universe (2019), Sentimental Education (2021), Simon Seongsoo Kim, Always Being With Friends In Low Places (2023)
