Born in 1979, Kim Sojin studied dramatics at Chung-Ang University before following with a specialization at the Korea National University of Arts. She started her acting career in 2008 when she joined a theatre company, Trans-Dimensional Stageship, with which she performed several plays. Following a first screen appearance as an extra in fantasy action thriller <Haunters> (2010), Kim first drew attention of film enthusiasts with her role as a reporter in the action thriller <The Terror, LIVE> (2013). Despite a first starring role in indie drama <See, Beethoven> (2013), she has long been confined to supporting roles. However, it is with one such role that she made her breakthrough in 2017, stealing the spotlight with her striking performance as a tenacious prosecutor in <The King> (2016). This allowed her to nab Best Supporting Actress at the Baeksang Arts Awards, the Grand Bell Awards and the Blue Dragon Film Awards, three of the most prestigious film ceremonies in Korea. In 2018, she joined the main cast of actor Kim Yunseok’s directing debut <Another Child>, playing a single woman whose relationship with a married man is the trigger event that sets off the entire narrative. In the historical political thriller <The Man Standing Next>, she was a lobbyist who helps the head of the KCIA to prevent a political scandal. She was then cast in two of the most anticipated blockbusters of 2021, Ryoo Seungwan’s action drama <Escape from Mogadishu> and Han Jaerim’s disaster action film <Emergency Declaration>, the latter of which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2022, Kim received her first main role in a series with <Through the Darkness>.
