SHIN Jae-young started making short films back in 2008 when he directed <The Affective Struggle 2 - “The Battle of Life”>. He followed that up with <A Prelude to an Emotional Fight> in 2009 and then <The Heat Transfer> which followed two years later, and screened at the Asiana International Short Film Festival. He next prepared for his feature film debut, the K-horror <Manhole>, which was produced and financed by Lotte Entertainment. Directing from his own screenplay, SHIN cast JUNG Yu-Mi as a woman who goes searching for her sister, played by KIM Sae-ron, when she is kidnapped by a serial killer, with JUNG Kyung-ho in the role. Dragged into the sinuous waterways under Seoul, SHIN put his characters up against each other in a claustrophobic story that was equal parts horror and thriller and filmed on intricate sets.
