Making his feature film debut with Penny Pinchers, KIM Jung-hwan was recognized for his potential in film festivals both at home and abroad on the strength of his short film Cage. He is a seasoned young director who has collaborated on many feature films: he also wrote the adaptation for Shampoo Angel and worked as cinematographer on the documentary AKA Nikki S. Lee(2008), which was invited to Berlins Forum and screened at the MoMA. His fun, fresh script for Penny Pinchers was selected for production by the Korea Film Council under its support program. Its hearty, sweet portrayal of twentysomethings was what made many industry insiders say this script had the highest casting potential for the year. Director KIM, who never lets a day go by without making someone roar with laughter, incorporated his own great sense of humor and sensibilities to weave a story of two very unlikely characters coming together. Penny Pinchers has all the makings to be the sleeper hit of 2011s second half.
