KIM Hee-dong is a visual effects designer and supervisor. While he was studying visual design in the 90s, he quickly realized that the lessons were already obsolete as they didn’t take into account the most recent tools to make interactive websites. He thus started to study by himself and even created a school club to produce videos and animations. Intrigued by the video design companies that were thriving abroad, he decided to give it a try by sharing online a sample of his work. Encouraged by the reactions and even job offers he received from abroad, he established in 1999 with two other classmates his own video design and motion graphics company Motion Factory, the first of its kind in Korea. This pioneering position in time for the revitalization of Korean cinema allowed him to take part in hundreds of films, mainly for the title design, but also for the visual effects in the case of <2009 Lost Memories> (2002), <Volcano High> (2001), <Who Are You?> (2002) and <How to Keep My Love> (2004). He then joined as head of the visual effects sector CJ Powercast, a subsidiary of CJ Entertainment that provides digital intermediate and broadcasting services. There, he notably oversaw the visual effects of 2008’s hit comedy <Scandal Makers> (2008) and blockbuster disaster drama <Haeundae> (2009). It is for the latter that he won in 2009 the technical achievement award (shared with two other professionals) at the Blue Dragon Film Awards. He would later be in charge of the VFX of paranormal action thriller <Haunters> (2010). In 2014, KIM quit CJ Powercast to set up the 3D animation company DreamFactory Studio.
