SUH Young-joo is an expert in overseas business who has had great accomplishments in overseas sales and joint production of Korean movies. She started specializing in export of Korean films to overseas markets after establishing Cineclick Asia in 2000. In its early years, she was a joint investor in LEE Chang-dong’s <Oasis> and KIM Jee-woon’s <A Tale of Two Sisters> and was responsible for overseas distribution of those titles. She played a pivotal role in KIM Ki-duk’s rise to international fame in particular through her overseas sales efforts of eight of his films, including <Samaritan Girl> and <3-Iron>. Almost all Korean films that are widely recognized overseas, such as <Old Boy>, <The Host>, and <The Chaser>, went through her hands. Upon founding Finecut in 2008, she actively engaged in international joint productions by investing in <Lion's Den and Carancho> by an Argentinean director, Pablo Trapero, and in a Korea-France joint production, <A Brand New Life>. SUH has managed international sales of the latest films by HONG Sangsoo and KIM Ki-duk which have earned worldwide recognition, including <In Another Country> and <Pieta>. In 2012, she also co-produced Indian filmmaker Sidharth Srinivasan’s horror <The Profane>, a UK-India-Korea joint production.
