Born in 1986, SHIN Hyun-been started contemplating an acting career after joining the drama club of her high school. After graduating from Korea National University of Arts in art history, she resolved to pursue her old dream since she didn’t feel driven with the same passion for that field as some of her former classmates, and it was thanks to an acquaintance that she heard about an audition for <He’s on Duty> (2010). SHIN was cast to play Jang-mi, a Vietnamese widow, in this movie which deals with life in Korea as Asian migrants. She made such a believable impression, especially in terms of the language and accent, that many were surprised upon learning that she was not of Vietnamese descent. With such a remarked debut, she received the Baeksang Arts Award for Best New Actress in Film. The following year, she was cast as a Japanese citizen of Korean descent in the cooking drama series <Kimchi Family> (2011), and in the hit thriller <Confidential Assignment> (2016), she played the North Korean wife of the protagonist, two roles that similarly asked for specific accents. She starred in the thriller <BEASTS CLAWING AT STRAWS> (2020) and the smash hit medical drama series <Hospital Playlist> (2020).
