Born in 1982, KIM Lok-kyoung graduated in architecture before debuting as an actor starting with a small role in <Spin Kick> in 2004. He could later be seen in a large number of films, most notable among them <Bleak Night> (2010), <The Yellow Sea> (2010) and <The Front Line> (2011). In 2012, he won Best Actor at the Busan Independent Film Festival for the two shorts selected that year he was starring in, <Wanderer> and <Like Rain Flowing>. Having been rubbing shoulders over the years with many film directors, many of which became close friends, KIM naturally started to share their ambitions of telling stories and so began to write his own stories, which he later fancied turning into films. Without any prior experience or formal education in filmmaking, he completed his first film as a director in 2016, learning every aspect of the discipline on the job and with the help of friends. He recently proved to be a capable storyteller in his own right when his feature directing debut <Festival> (2020) swept the Awards at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, winning three out of the five prizes it was competing for, the Techcross Environmental Services Best Korean Fantastic Film Award, the Korean Fantastic Audience Award and the Distribution Award, while lead actor HA Jun took home a Fantastic Actor trophy. Although KIM is now focusing on his filmmaking career, this doesn’t mean he intends to stop appearing before the camera, as he was recently seen headlining the indie film <Days in a Summer> (2019) by OH Jung-seok.
