HWANG Shin-hye, born in 1963, started her career in 1982 as a model for TV commercials. After she passed the open audition for actors held by broadcaster MBC the next year, she rose to fame with her acting debut in soap opera <Father and Son> (1983-1984). Nicknamed the “computer beauty” by the media due to her “uncannily perfect features”, she quickly became a household name of soap operas. In 1987, soon after she made her first film appearance as the female lead of BAE Chang-ho’s <Our Joyful Young Days> (1987), she announced that she would retire to get married, but her sudden break-up precipitated her comeback nine months later, with a starring role in LEE Myung-se’s critically celebrated <Gagman> (1988). Then at the peak of her fame, she won several popularity awards between 1990 and 1991 thanks to PARK Chul-soo’s melodrama film <The Woman Who Walks On Water> (1990) and soap opera <Years of Ambition> (1990-1991). In 1995, she reunited with PARK for his critical hit drama film <301, 302>. After her standout performance in soap opera <Cinderella> (1997), for which she took top acting honor in the television category of the Baeksang Arts Awards, she focused her career on the big screen, starring in <Push! Push!> (1997), <Film-Making> (1997), <Bedroom And Courtroom> (1998) and <Chu Noh-Myoung Bakery, The Wife In Romance> (2000). After appearing in gangster comedy <Family> (2002) and a handful of series, she put her acting career on hold for several years to try new things, such as writing books on healthy lifestyle, creating a lingerie line and even hosting her own TV shows, among which <Let Me In> was the most successful. She came back to television in 2009, with notable appearances in <Home Sweet Home> (2010), <Bachelor’s Vegetable Store> (2011) and <Legend of the Blue Sea> (2016).
