Born in 1970, CHOI Duk-mun studied theatre at the Seoul Institute of the Arts before debuting in 1994 in the first production of hit Korean stage musical <Subway Line 1>. He later joined the company Stageship. His first movie role came in 1999 with the Korean classic <A Peppermint Candy> (1999) from world-renowned director LEE Chang-dong, in which he plays a member of a labor union. A character actor often cast in minor and supporting roles, he was notably seen in KIM Ki-duk’s <Bad Guy> (2002) and YIM Pil-sung’s <Antarctic Journal> (2004). CHOI was first cast in a leading role in <Silk Shoes> (2005), sharing the screen with Stageship co-member LEE Sung-min. The two would often play against each other over the next decade, and CHOI became much more visible with his participation to sensational hits such as <The Thieves> (2012), <Roaring Currents> (2013) and <Assassination> (2015), with a more important role in the latter that gained him wider notice. He has most recently moved to indie works, appearing in indie favorites <Yongsoon> (2017) and <Microhabitat> (2017).
