Largely known for his work on the small screen, CHA was nevertheless involved in feature films, particularly following his discharge from military service in the mid-1990s. Known for stoic, hard-edged characters, CHA appeared in films such as KWAK Kyung-taek’s <Detective K> (1999) and as a criminal in <Mokpo, Gangster’s Paradise> (2004). He appeared as a government officer in KANG Woo-suk’s <Hanbando> (2006) and later challenged himself with the North Korea drama <Crossing>, which was South Korea’s submission to the Academy Awards in 2008. He portrayed more card-carrying, suit-wearing and humorless big wigs as a corporate head in inferno pic <The Tower> (2012) and as a mayor in the influenza film <The Flu> (2013). Switching to indie films, CHA next made the JEON Kyu-hwan drama <My Boy>, which screened at the Busan International Film Festival in 2013.
