He entered Chung-ang University in 1985 to study theater and film, and he set up in 1994 Movie Room, a PR agency specialized in film marketing, contributing to the commercial successes of <Bichunmoo> (2000), <Friend> (2001) and <My Sassy Girl> (2001) among others. After producing his debut <My Wife Got Married> (2008) and the low-budget horror film <The Sleepless> (2012), he scored a resounding success in 2013 with period piece <The Face Reader>. Starring SONG Kang-ho and LEE Jung-jae, the film gathered 9 million admissions and swept the accolades at the Grand Bell Awards, winning four major awards including Best Film. He also made the headlines that same year when he announced that he would donate half of the box office net revenues of <The Face Reader>. In 2018, he is releasing <The Princess and the Matchmaker> and <Myeong-dang>, two blockbuster period movies that will form with <The Face Reader> a trilogy centered on divination during the Joseon Era.
