Aged 21, JEONG Gi-hun took his first steps in the Korean film industry as part of the directing department of <My Dear KeumHong> in 1995. Following that he worked as an assistant director on <A Promise> (1998) and then as a scripter on <Fin De Siecle> (1999). He took another assistant director gig for <Wild Card> in 2003. He later helped out with the script for the horror <Death Bell> (2008). A year later he made his debut as a director with the melodrama <Goodbye Mom>, which featured CHOI Gang-hee and KIM Young-ae. The film was a big hit, accruing 1.9 million admissions, in addition to receiving the Best Supporting Actress Award at the Daejong Film Awards, the Popular Actress Pirze from the Paeksang Arts Awards and the Best Director for Asian New Talent Award from the Shanghai International Film Festival. JEONG scored another hit with the romantic drama <Love 911> in 2012. Starring KO Soo and HAN Hyo-joo, the film wound up with almost 2.5 million viewers and went on to screen at the Atlanta Korean Film Festival. Three years later JEONG teamed up with JUNG Jae-young and PARK Bo-young for the well-received journalist comedy <YOU CALL IT PASSION>, based on a popular 2010 novel of the same name.
