JANG Geun-yeong is a one-of-a-kind art director who imbued Koreas movie production design with a very peculiar fantasy aspect in the 2000s, a rare type with alien sensibility not easily found within the boundary of Koreas commercial popular filmmaking. His unique style jumped on to the movie scene with the mystery SF comedy Save the Green Planet(2003), known for the intended crudeness of the set design, which has not seen any imitations since. His art design attempts in fantasy martial arts action movies, Arahan(2004) and Volcano High(2001), were refreshingly shocking. Even the most normal of his movies, 200 Pounds Beauty(2006), was a stage for spatial arts that realize the fantasies of a surgically made beauty. Jang is steadfast in pursuing his world of art design regardless of the movies genre.
