LEE Il-hwa, born in 1972, debuted her screen career in 1992 when she passed an audition for television actors held by TV network SBS. After making short appearances in TV series <Calendula> and <Under One Roof>, she became a celebrity by co-hosting the popular talk show <Access! Movie World> between 1993 and 1997 while appearing in a number of series, including <Sons of the Wind> (1995) in which she played the love interest of LEE Byung-hun. She also made her big screen debut in 1994 with <No Need To Justify Yearning>. After two unlucky marriages that put her career on hold and stained her reputation, she made a comeback in 2002 with a telefilm as part of the <MBS Best Theatre> series. Since then, she has enjoyed a career revival thanks to several supporting roles in TV series that allowed her to expand her acting range. She was notably the elegant mother of a rich family in international hit melodrama <My Love From the Star> (2013), and played the mother of each female protagonist in the respective seasons of anthology series <Reply>, and every time with SHIN Dong-il as her husband. After making her first foray on stage in 2006, she resumed her film career with supporting roles in <The Taming of the Shrew> (2008) and <Romantic Island> (2008), soon followed by the indie social drama <Bandhobi> (2009). As a nod to the couple they played recurrently in the <Reply> series, LEE appeared again as SHIN Dong-il’s wife in the crime comedy-action <THE ACCIDENTAL DETECTIVE> (2015). She was finally offered in 2017 her first starring role on big screen, in the indie drama <A Living Being> (2017). She won Best Supporting Actress at the Korea Drama Awards for her performance in the workplace comedy-drama <Good Manager> (2017). In 2018, she reprised her role in <The Accidental Detective 2: In Action> (2018).
