Born in 1975, SONG Sun-mi was first known as the runner-up at the Super Elite Model beauty contest in 1996. After a few modelling stints for commercials, she started her acting career when she was cast in the TV series <Model> in 1997. Following that, she landed a dual role in the cult romcom film <Art Museum by the Zoo> (1998), and later gained a lot of notice for her appearance in the hit gangster comedy <My Boss, My Hero> in 2001. After her role as a housewife in the series <Precious Family> (2004) brought her to wider recognition, she decided, without even reading the script, to work with Hong Sangsoo on <Woman On The Beach> (2006). She continued to be particularly busy in television, with notable titles including the medical drama series <Behind White Tower> (2007), the family drama series <Dandelion Family> (2010) and the royal court drama <Blooded Palace: The War of Flowers> (2013). Since then, she has only appeared on the big screen in Hong Sangsoo’s films, first reuniting with the cineaste for <The Day He Arrives> in 2011 and having become a more regular cast member in recent years, with roles in <On the Beach at Night Alone> (2017), <Hotel by the River> (2019) and <The Woman Who Ran> (2020).
