BYUN, Daniel created a sensation with a short film, <Homo Videocus>, which he made with [E J-yong]. He subsequently went to Paris and earned his. Ph.D. in aesthetics at the University of Paris 1. His feature debut was with <Interview>(2000), about a young movie director who works on a documentary on the subject of love. A melodrama and a film about filmmaking, <Interview> is also rich in experimental spirit by having actors appear in real names and acting in roles of themselves. BYUN’s second feature was < The Scarlet Letter>(2004), based on the book of the same title. A portrayal of a man and a woman and their complicated interconnections, the movie is has a more popular theme and narrative. But by inserting a small story inside the bigger story, BYUN does not stray too far from the complex storytelling method he used for his debut film. He is currently working on a Korea-France joint project, <Baby Blue>(working title).
