With more than four decades of career, PARK In-hwan, born in 1945, is a veteran actor widely remembered for his role as a particularly obstinate father in the 1989 TV series <Wang Rung’s Family>. Having studied theatre and films at Sorabol College of the Arts (now Chung-Ang University), he debuted in 1965 as a TV actor in the drama series <The Long Return Home>. Even though he has largely focused his career on television, he was also active on stage. He won top acting honor at the Korea Theatre Festival in 1978 and was named the following year president of Temporary Bridge company. He was later bestowed Best Actor in Theater at the Baeksang Art Awards in 1984. He made his first appearance on the big screen in 1990 with a featuring role in drama film <I Stand Every Day>, but had to wait until 1998 to break through with a lead role as a father in KIM Jee-won’s debut feature, the black comedy <The Quiet Family> (1998). As he started receiving more movie role offers, he played minor or supporting roles in a number of films from the 2000s, notably HUR Jin-ho’s <One Fine Spring Day> (2001) and PARK Chan-wook’s <Thirst> (2008). Following the successes of family TV series <Be Strong, Geum-Soon!> (2005), <Famous Princesses> (2006) and <First Wives’ Club> (2007), in all of which he played father characters, he has earned the nickname of “grandpa of the nation”. In 2014, his performance as the long-time friend of <Miss Granny> (2013) touched the hearts of many.
